Job Description

The primary responsibility of the Control Immigration Officer is to provide effective law enforcement and monitoring within the Inspectorate division of the Department of Home Affairs. The role involves investigating cases of illegal migration, enforcing the Immigration Act, and overseeing the deportation of illegal foreigners in accordance with South African laws and international treaties.

Ideal Candidate

Role Responsibilities

  • Conduct law enforcement duties, including detecting, tracing, and arresting illegal foreigners
  • Supervise the investigation of cases related to human trafficking, smuggling, and fraudulently obtained documents
  • Oversee the legal deportation of individuals who do not comply with South African immigration laws
  • Participate in operations to combat illegal migration, in collaboration with other law enforcement agencies
  • Appear and testify in both criminal and civil court cases, as well as departmental disciplinary hearings
  • Monitor and inspect local businesses, workplaces, and residential areas to ensure compliance with immigration laws
  • Manage and safeguard departmental vehicles and assigned tools of trade
  • Promote awareness to discourage illegal migration and facilitate voluntary departures
  • Prepare reports and maintain statistics on illegal immigration and enforcement operations
  • Participate in security cluster forums and interdepartmental case flow management meetings
  • Provide mentorship, training, and oversight to junior officers
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including local and international law enforcement agencies

Minimum Requirements

  • A relevant qualification (NQF Level 6) in Law, Public Management, Public Administration, Policing, Criminology, Forensics, or Criminal Justice

  • A valid Code C1 (10) driver’s license and Public Driver Permit (PDP)
  • Willingness to travel locally and internationally for work-related purposes
